Gregory Burns

Vice President

Dubbed by a client as their “secret weapon in D.C.," Greg Burns offers expert advice and strategic counsel to local and regional government entities on a wide variety of issues.  Greg provides comprehensive advocacy for clients which range from large, urban regions to small, rural communities in states as diverse as California, Florida, Oregon, and Texas.

As a Vice President at Van Scoyoc Associates, Greg’s personal, hands-on approach to client service is recognized and appreciated by his clients.  He invests time in learning more about the communities for whom he works and forging personal connections with his clients.

By making his clients’ challenges his own, Greg successfully helps secure federal funding for projects, improves client outcomes as they interact with the federal government, overcomes regulatory or legislative challenges, and finds solutions to otherwise intractable problems with Congress or federal agencies.  Greg believes that proactive engagement is key to achieving desired outcomes, and his ability to identify areas of concern, and intercede quickly, has yielded positive results for his clients.

"There were some very difficult questions asked in those meetings.  What I was thoroughly impressed with is the fact that Greg Burns did not shy away from it; Greg got into it.  He fought for those dollars right there, in the office."

Chris Craft, Tax Collector, St. Lucie County, Fla.

Before joining VSA, Greg was a lobbyist with another Washington firm which he helped grow substantially.  Greg also served on the legislative staff of former Rep. Darlene Hooley of Oregon, where he was responsible for a broad array of issues, and at the U.S. Public Interest Research Group in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for implementing and executing an issue-specific lobbying agenda.

Greg graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and English.  He lives in Washington’s Capitol Hill neighborhood with his wife and two children.
