Matthew Henken utilizes the entire spectrum of client services – crafting communications with elected and agency officials, drafting proposed legislation, monitoring key legislative and policy issues, all-source research, and in-depth analysis – to help clients advance their federal agenda. He works closely with clients to position them as thought leaders on issues such as health care, energy, and tax policy as well as to identify and capitalize on emerging trends in federal spending.
Matt’s 15 years of in-depth institutional knowledge of Congress and the federal agencies serve VSA’s clients well. Prior to joining VSA, Matt was as a Legislative Director for McDonald Hopkins Government Strategies for four years. Previously, he spent 10 years working in the United States House of Representatives and was the Legislative Director and Rules Committee Associate for U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), as well as personal staff on the Homeland Security Committee. Earlier, he served as congressional aide to U.S. Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO).
A native of Centennial, Colorado, Matt has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Colorado. He currently resides with his family in Northern Virginia.
