VSA Expands Healthcare Practice

WASHINGTON – Van Scoyoc Associates (VSA) announced today that Emily Katz will be joining the firm as Vice President. A recognized health policy expert with an extensive background on Capitol Hill and in the private sector, Emily will serve as Chair of the firm’s healthcare practice.

“Emily is a tremendous talent, and I am so pleased that she has decided to join VSA and lead our healthcare team,” Jennifer LaTourette, President and Chief Operating Officer of VSA said. “Healthcare continues to be one of the dominant issues in Washington, and having someone with Emily’s background and energy will allow us to further expand our offerings, expertise, and reach.”

Prior to joining VSA, Emily spent five years in senior roles at another lobbying company and four years at Express Scripts. On Capitol Hill, Emily spent nine years serving as a Legislative Assistant to now Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR), Health Policy Director to Representative Diana DeGette (D, CO-1), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Senior Health Policy Advisor to former Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA). During her time as a congressional staffer, Emily also served as the Staff Director of the House Pro-Choice Caucus and the House Diabetes Caucus.

Emily’s policy work has touched on many sectors of healthcare including drug pricing, public health, women’s health, Veteran’s health, diabetes, end of life care, health IT, health insurance and reform as well as Medicare and Medicaid issues. She works regularly with the Senate Finance and HELP Committees, the House Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means Committees, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Originally from New York, Emily received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and her Master of Public Health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
